Family Update 12/13/2024
Farid Johnson

Dear Siwanoy Families,

I hope everyone is well and staying warm. With the temperature dropping, please be sure to have your children come in with appropriate clothing. Students are coming to school without jackets and in shorts. Attire like this will not allow them to participate in outdoor recess as we go outside often in cold temperatures.

As we hear up for the holidays, our teachers and staff members participate in "The Ten Days before Break" (clever right!! I made it up haha). Tuesday, December 17th, is holiday sweater day and I would love for the students to participate as well as long as it is school appropriate. I have seen some of those sweaters out there that can get a little spicy!

We look forward to another great week ahead. Keep spreading the love!

Sincerely,
Farid Johnson

December word of the month is Ownership
Taking ownership means we take responsibility for our choices, words, and learning. We accept and grow from our mistakes and learning opportunities  when we take ownership of our actions and behaviors.

A Note from Student Government
The Siwanoy Student Government will be holding a New Year's sale on Friday, December 20th to send off the school into a joyous new year! We will be selling New Year's hats, crowns and bead necklaces. Hats and crowns will be $2 and necklaces will be $1. All money raised will be used to purchase a Siwanoy Suggestion Box. The sale will take place during your child's lunch period. At the end of the day we will all wear our hats and have a New Year's toast together over the loudspeaker!

Tips for Keeping Your Child Safe as a Pedestrian

Pedestrian safety is an important life skill to help keep children safe in our communities. Here are some key tips to review with your child:

  • Stop, Look, and Listen: Always stop at the curb, look both ways for traffic, and listen for oncoming vehicles.
  • Use Crosswalks: Make sure your child knows to cross the street at marked crosswalks or corners.
  • Follow Signals: Teach your child to pay attention to traffic lights, walk signs, and crossing guards.
  • Stay Alert: Avoid distractions like phones or headphones when walking near traffic.

Practicing these habits together can help your child feel confident and stay safe. Thank you for reinforcing these important safety skills!

We will be participating in a lockdown drill next week. Please talk to your children about being ready for such a drill. Thanks!
