Family Update 12/20/24
Farid Johnson

Dear Siwanoy Families,

What a year it has been! I am so grateful to work with such a dedicated staff, a loving surrounding community, and some pretty amazing children. We have all grown together tremendously throughout the beginning half of the school year/closing half of the calendar year! I firmly believe that the best is still yet to even come.

Whatever you decide to do during this holiday season, I wish you nothing but the best. Be safe, have fun, hug a loved one, do something that makes you smile, and ring in the New Year like you are ready to take on anything.

With all of the nonsense happening in the world right now, it is even more important to keep spreading the love! We look forward to seeing everyone in January!

Sincerely,
Farid Johnson

Second graders create beautiful murals
Artist Kim McCormack was back again this year working with our second graders on their community 3D Murals.  This is a great hands-on and creative way to deepen their understanding of communities while fostering collaboration and artistic expression.

Third Grade Field trip to Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem
Our entire third grade class was exposed to the history, ecology, and biology of wolves, and learned about the current challenges facing wolf recovery across the United States.
"How many species of wolves are there in North America?
It depends who you ask! Wolf taxonomy has long been the subject of a lengthy, ongoing scientific debate. Some members of the scientific community argue that there are two species of wolves in North America: the gray wolf (Canis lupus) and the red wolf (Canis rufus). However, recent genomic research supports a three species model recognized by Canada, which promotes the eastern (Algonquin) wolf (Canis lycaon), previously considered a subspecies of gray wolf, to a distinct species."

3rd Grade Orchestra Play-In - Save the Date January 16, 2025
Parents and students are invited to join us at 6:30pm on January 16th in the Hutchinson gym for our "Play In". This is a time to share our songs with each other, and to play some music together. No siblings, please.

January word of the month is Grit
Grit is the ability to keep trying and persevere towards long-term goals, even when things are difficult:  Grit is like keeping at it when learning to ride a bike, even if you fall down a few times.

Thank you from Student Government
We raised a lot of money from our student government new year's sale.  Thank you to everyone who supported our efforts.  We will be able to buy a really nice Siwanoy Suggestion Box with these newly acquired funds.

Tips for Keeping Your Child Safe as a Pedestrian

Pedestrian safety is an important life skill to help keep children safe in our communities. Here are some key tips to review with your child:

  • Stop, Look, and Listen: Always stop at the curb, look both ways for traffic, and listen for oncoming vehicles.
  • Use Crosswalks: Make sure your child knows to cross the street at marked crosswalks or corners.
  • Follow Signals: Teach your child to pay attention to traffic lights, walk signs, and crossing guards.
  • Stay Alert: Avoid distractions like phones or headphones when walking near traffic.

Practicing these habits together can help your child feel confident and stay safe. Thank you for reinforcing these important safety skills!

Our lockdown drill went very smoothly.  Thank you to everyone and a special shout out to our own Pelham Manor Police Department.
