Friday Update 10/27/2023

Dear Siwanoy Families,

Happy Friday! Yet another productive week in the books. John Overmyer and Katie Mercer were our principals for the day on Wednesday. Here we are, having our morning meeting with head custodian, Tom Warren, talking about our new kindergarten playground. (Pictured above!)

Enjoy the movie under the stars tonight and please look through the lost and found items which will be placed in the playground. Anything not claimed will be donated first thing tomorrow morning.

Halloween Parade

On Tuesday, October 31st, we will have our annual halloween parade. We will kick this off at 2:25pm by walking out of the front of the school. We will then make a right and walk all the way around the Siwanoy school block and back in through the main doors. Once we return to the building, students will re-enter with their teachers and prepare for dismissal at 3:05pm. (Flyers have been distributed to all of our neighbors and these streets will be closed off for safety purposes only for the duration of the parade).

Pajama Day - 11/1

We will bring in November with our favorite pjs! What better way to come to school the day after Halloween.

Diwali

Diwali at Siwanoy will be held on Thursday, November 9th from 3:15-4:45pm in the Siwanoy Gym. Join us for an afternoon of crafts, samosas and a Diwali performance and dance workshop with the Ajna Dance Company. Please RSVP.

Siwanoy University Continues

Thank you again to Ms. Weaver and for all that attended our last Siwanoy University. The event was a huge success. So much so, that we are planning another one for December 11th. Do you have questions about MTSS? In a nutshell, Pelham School District strives to provide the highest quality of education to every student. To meet this goal, we have adopted a three-tiered approach to instruction nationally known as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This approach provides interventions to students who are not meeting grade-level standards based on multiple measures. MTSS is a means to intervene early in the general education setting with increasing intensity to help the student. Should your child require additional support in the future, our interventionists will be in touch regarding a pull-out literacy or math group during the W.I.N. block. Bring your questions. Everyone is welcome. Executive Functioning Recap

Socktober at Siwanoy

Every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. Socks are the MOST requested and LEAST donated item. We want to join forces to prove that even the smallest acts of love and kindness, like donating a new pair of socks, can make a BIG difference in the lives of our neighbors in need. Please donate a NEW pair of socks and place it in the bin in the upstairs hallway. Donations will be collected through Thanksgiving!

Word of the Month - Thoughtfulness

Being thoughtful means considering how our actions and words may impact others. When we demonstrate thoughtfulness, we are being considerate of others and doing our best to help in any way that we can. How thoughtful were Mrs. Sozio's students? They all came in wearing "Team Bride" necklaces and gave her multiple gifts. They sent her off in style.

Upcoming dates:

10/30 - Day 6

10/31 - Day 1 Halloween Parade at 2:25pm

11/1 - Day 2

11/2 - Day 3 Book Fair & Milk & Cookies in evening
