Good afternoon Siwanoy!
Happy Thanksgiving! In the spirit of this season, we are focusing on what we are grateful for. For me, I am so grateful for our incredibly strong Siwanoy family. You and your children are such a big blessing to me. I am filled with gratitude for all of you.
Our PTA VP put together these awesome printable notecards to use if you'd like to share your gratitude for someone:-) Gratitude note card
Emergency Dismissal Drill
Our emergency dismissal drill will take place Wednesday, 11/24 at 11:40am. Students will evacuate the school as they would for a fire drill, then head to their normal dismissal spots around 11:50am.
As of now we have 3 active cases. We have been doing everything we possibly can in the schools to ensure the safety of our students such as limiting/removing carpet time, updating seating charts, reminding students about the importance of wearing their masks, etc. Please continue to be extra cautious at home to prevent the spread of COVID. We really have to work together and sacrifice a little in order to get to the other side. Also, please remind your children to wear their masks when necessary.
Town Halls are being held by class instead of in the gym
Due to the increasing number of covid cases, we thought that it would be best not to gather in the gym for our town halls. Instead, our school psychologist, Kerri Ann Weaver and I have been going to visit individual classrooms to talk about the term "bullying" and what that actually means. The conversations have been fantastic and meaningful.
In conjunction with our Diversity Committee, we have organized a story teller to come to our school virtually to give our students an awesome experience next week! A special thank you to Mr. Gallo for reaching out to an old friend!
Word of the Month
This month's word is GRATITUDE! In our morning announcements, we have been asking our 5th graders to say something that they are grateful for. So far, we have heard gratitude for a new dog, having lots of friends, a wonderful family and getting a great education. Thank you to our fabulous PTA for creating an amazing gratitude board on our 5th grade wing.

Native American Heritage Month
We started November off with Native American Heritage Month! Our main floor bulletin boards look amazing thanks to Ms. Diano and our diversity committee. Thank you so much for all of your hard work.
COVID Testing Reminder
ALL Covid tests must be returned Monday morning. Thank you so much for your continued support in getting these tests back to us first thing Monday morning.
Please make sure that your child is coming to school everyday in a tightly fitted, properly worn mask. (We have had more than a few children coming in with masks below their noses). We are looking forward to throwing these masks away permanently and really appreciate your help in getting us there.
What to do if your child has COVID-19 symptoms
It is critically important that you monitor your child’s symptoms. If any child is showing symptoms of COVID-19, they must not attend school and you should notify our school nurse, Mrs. Keller. (Please do not yell at Mrs. Keller. She is only trying to keep all of our children safe). Students who exhibit one or more of the following symptoms may return to school ONLY if they receive a negative PCR test. A list of testing locations is available on the District website. As a reminder, COVID-19 symptoms include:
- Congestion or runny nose
- Sore throat
- Muscle or body aches
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- New loss of taste or smell
- Nausea or vomiting
Gentle reminder - Pets are not permitted on school grounds
Please remember that pets are not allowed on school grounds during school hours (including arrival and dismissal)
The week ahead:
- 11/22 - Day 2
- 11/23- Day 3
- 11/24 - Day 4 - We will be having our early release drill at 11:40 followed by a noon dismissal & pajama day!
